The History of St Thomas'
Prior to the building of St. Thomas' a number Anglican families in south-west Kingston Township worshiped at near by St. Andrew’s By-The-Lake United Church. Many bonds of personal friendship have continued between members of the two churches to this day.
Members of the two churches work together to support the Neighbourhood Sharing Centre. We continue to support one another in our respective social and fund raising efforts.
The first Anglican worship service held in the Reddendale area was on November 4th, 1956. The priest at that service, and for the next six months, was John Hart, who at that time was Rector of Christ Church, Cataraqui. In June of 1957, Henry Hill (later to be diocesan Bishop) was appointed as the first full time Rector. Our first church building was a barn situated on the current church property and was used until January 31st, 1959 when the current building was opened. The basement was completed in 1974, with a nursery being added in 1989. The original Sanctuary was redesigned in 1987, and then in 2007 the projection system was added to enhance our worship and education ministries. An expansion of the office space and the addition of the elevator occurred in 2003.
In 1989, in a cooperative effort between St. Thomas' Anglican Church and nearby St. Andrew’s By-The-Lake United Church, Crystal Springs Manor was opened, a 50 unit senior apartment building close by on Front Road.
